Overview

Content Rules are pre-set prompts to customize content when you generate in bulk in Describely.

Use them to tailor your product content's structure, length, tone of voice, language, and more to match your brand guidelines and sales platform requirements. 🎉

What you can customize
Below are some of the custom rules Describely supports:

Tip: if you are new to Content Rules, we recommend experimenting first with simple rules like length, output language, and tone.

Below are more advanced rules to guide the AI when it writes your content:

  • Restricted keywords:  Create a list of specific words or phrases to avoid in your content.
  • Description format: Choose whether your descriptions are written in one paragraph ('singletext') or multiple paragraphs
Note: To retain paragraph formatting when exporting content, you'll need to export your catalog as HTML.
  • Custom title, description, & meta description instructions: Set up prompts to guide how the AI writes your content.

Note: Check out this article for examples & best practices when writing custom instructions!

  • Bullet Point Configuration: Choose between 3-10 bullet points, customize their length, and instruct the AI on what to include in each.

Describely's default rules

  • Description length: Average (~150-350 words)
  • Title length: Average (~20-100 characters)
  • Output language: English (US)
  • Tone: Neutral
  • Number of bullet points: 5
  • Meta description instruction: Highlight key features of the product in 2 or 3 very short, concise sentences.
  • Meta description length: Under 160 characters (recommended)

The default set of rules cannot be edited. If you want to create your own set of rules to customize your content, keep reading!

Options to create your own rules

Note:  If it's your first time using Content Rules and you already have a few quality descriptions in your product import file, we'll automatically use them to create an editable ruleset. It will look like this:
If a custom ruleset wasn't auto-created, there are a few different ways to create one. Choose the method that best fits you and your business's needs:

Tip: If you're a beginner, we recommend option #1 or #2. 😉

  1. Create from a sample or existing description: If you have an example of a high-quality product description, Describely will analyze it to create a custom, editable ruleset.
  2. Clone Describely default ruleset: This is recommended if you don't have a quality description yet and prefer to set up your own rules. Copying and making changes to Describely's default rules will help you get started.
  3. Create from scratch: This method is the highest lift and recommended only for advanced users.
