Understand Product Statuses in Describely

In this article

At a glance

Product statuses show where a product is in its journey—from import to publish.

Every product follows a consistent path:

  • Imported → Product enters Describely
  • Generating / Generated → AI content is created
  • Pending review → Awaiting review
  • Approved → Ready to publish
  • Publishing / Published → Live on your store
  • Deactivated → Removed from active use

If something doesn’t go as planned:

  • Rejected → Not approved
  • Failed → Generation or publishing failed

How status updates work

Statuses update based on actions—so you don’t have to manage them manually.

When a product enters Describely, it’s always:

  • Imported (regardless of if it was imported via CSV or store connector)

When you make changes, the product becomes:

  • Approved

This includes actions like:

  • Editing product content
  • Approving fields (for a single product or from a bulk job)
  • Updating meta tags
  • Adding images
  • Applying AI-generated edits

Need to change a status manually? You can easily flip between Imported/Approved/Rejected statuses to improve your workflow.

Publishing and reactivation

Publishing statuses reflect real-time progress:

  • When publishing starts → Publishing
  • When publishing succeeds → Published
  • If publishing fails → Status returns to its previous state

When managing product catalog state:

  • Deactivating a product → Deactivated
  • Reactivating a product → Imported

Note: Reactivated products are treated like new, so they can go through review and optimization again before publishing.
