FAQ: Data Enrichment

Looking for common questions and tips for our data enrichment? Check out this FAQ!

In this article

What types of data can I bring in from the web?

  • With Describely's data enrichment, you can pull in product images, attributes, and/or technical specifications from across the web OR a specific website domain (if you prefer).
  • Learn more about data enrichment here.

Not sure if you need data enrichment? Email us at support@describely.ai., we're happy to help.

Can I bring in multiple product attributes at once?

  • Yes! You can search for multiple product attributes at once.
  • You can easily enter each attribute name one at a time OR paste in a comma-separated list of multiple attributes.
  • After enriching attributes for the first time, you can easily re-use the same attribute list from your previous job.

Note: You can then review, approve, and export/publish content the same way as other fields. 🙂

When is a data enrichment credit used?

  • A data enrichment credit is used each time enrichment is successfully run on any given product.
  • A data enrichment credit is NOT used if a product enrichment fails. Read more about how to fix this here.

How many data enrichment credits do I have?

If you're looking to purchase more data enrichment credits, this article is for you!

You will see a message in Describely if you try to run data enrichment for more products that you have remaining credits.

If you're ever unsure, head to Account on the left sidebar to view your purchased and remaining credits.

How do I enrich my product data?

If you receive limited product information from manufacturers or suppliers, data enrichment can enhance your sparse data by pulling in detailed information, such as images and attributes, from the web.

Why would data enrichment fail?

Important: Describely only uses a data enrichment credit if data is successfully retrieved. Read our tips on how to avoid failed runs by selecting the right search fields in this article.

If Describely is unable to match your selected fields with high quality data, you might see the product(s) data enrichment be unsuccessful.

If this happens, not to worry! We make it easy to quickly run a web search for these products individually:

  1. Within the data enrichment job, click the failed product's title to be brought to its Product Details page.
  2. On the top right, click the cloud icon to automatically open a Google search for your title and SKU (if available).

Tip: Use a catalog view to filter to any products with a Failed enrichment status, so you can easily try to re-run the enrichment using higher quality, unique identifiers.

Why are there images or attributes missing, and how can I improve this?

  • For successful retrieval, images and attributes MUST match your search parameters (the fields and identifiers you choose to search by) AND be available on public sources (not private supplier portals, for example).

Not sure if you're searching by the right fields? Review your search quality score, and experiment with different unique identifiers like UPC, GTIN, or manufacturer part number (MPN) for best results!

  • Attribute names MUST match the language written on public sources. If queries are too long or specific, this can impact the likelihood data will be retrieved.

For example: Entering an attribute as "exact product dimensions" is less likely to retrieve quality results than "dimensions", "length", "width", "height", etc. When in doubt, go broad.
  • Some manufacturers or website owners choose to block AI and other third parties from crawling their domains. Because of this, we cannot guarantee data will be retrieved for every product, especially when restricting the search to specific web domains

If you're still stuck, email us at support@describely.ai so we can take a look.

Tip: If you notice you're not getting as much data back as you need, experiment with a wider search (avoiding restricting to specific domains, if possible) and/or different search fields to see how the retrieval quality compares.

How can I see my bulk job history?

  • Open your catalog and click Bulk Jobs Review on the top right.
  • This will open a log of your bulk jobs with their generated fields and current status.
  • Use the top toolbar to customize this view to your liking by filtering your bulk jobs, hiding columns, and more.
  • Click on a bulk job to review and approve newly retrieved data. Learn more about this process here.

Need to adjust how much content you see at a time? Try adjusting the toggle density feature on the top right until you find the view that works for you.
